If you thought David might slow down after his life-changing accident, think again. Our very own Wavey Davey has been out proving that while life might have thrown him a curveball, he is still hitting it out of the park, or in his case, rolling straight through it with a grin on his face, a crowd of mates around him, and probably some mischief up his sleeve.
The last few months have been a whirlwind of classic Dave moments, packed full of laughter, music, family, friends, and the occasional questionable dance move. Wheelchair or not, the man has rhythm. One of the highlights was a night out at Newmarket Racecourses, where he turned up suited, booted, and looking sharper than anyone else in the crowd. With live music blaring and thousands of people soaking up the atmosphere, there was Dave right in the middle of it all, smiling from ear to ear and showing that you cannot keep a good man down, especially when there is music and good company involved.
As much as he loves a crowd, nothing quite compares to time with his nearest and dearest. He has been making the most of every chance to spend time with his daughters Summer & Bella, whether that means countryside strolls, or more accurately power-chair cruises, with her perched proudly on his lap, or lazy afternoons in a café sharing milkshakes and pulling silly faces at each other. There is something about the way they at him, like he is their hero, and honestly, they are not wrong.
Of course, it would not be Dave without a bit of banter and a crowd of mates in tow. He has been spotted holding court in pub gardens, surrounded by friends in loud Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses on, and drinks in hand, looking like he has just strolled in from a beach holiday. The laughter is loud, the stories get taller as the day goes on, and somehow Dave is always at the centre of it, living proof that friendship and a good laugh are the best medicine going. And possibly that the louder the shirt, the better the craic.
Back on the lacrosse field, he has been reconnecting with the sport that shaped so much of his life. Watching him chat, laugh, and share his knowledge with the next generation is something special, the kind of thing that reminds you why community matters. The kids might not fully realise yet who they are learning from, but one day they will look back and know they were coached by a legend.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the hard work has not stopped. Dave is still putting in the graft with his standing frame sessions, pushing himself, staying focused, and proving that determination and cheeky grins are a powerful combination. It is not easy, but he makes it look like it might be, mostly because he insists on cracking jokes while doing it.
Everywhere he goes, David leaves a trail of laughter, positivity, and people shaking their heads in disbelief, usually muttering “only Dave” under their breath. He is showing us all that recovery is not just about the milestones, it is about living, laughing, and grabbing hold of every single moment along the way.
Here is to more adventures, more giggles, and more memories with the man, the myth, the unstoppable legend, Wavey Davey. Stay tuned, because if we know David, this is just the warm-up.
