Living with tetraplegia, or paralysis of all four limbs, is a daily challenge that requires immense strength and determination. David, has been on a long and arduous journey of physiotherapy and rehabilitation to regain his strength, mobility, and work towards independence.
David’s physiotherapy journey has been marked by several challenges, including acclimatizing to drug regimes, intense muscular spasms, and using a Neuromuscular Electronic Stimulation (NMES) device, So of course I had to shave him! Additionally, David’s fully-packed physiotherapy schedule, which includes: assisted arm and leg bike exercises, hydrotherapy, occupational therapy, and patient education, has been mentally and physically exhausting.
David’s physiotherapy journey has not been an easy one. There have been days when he has been left physically, mentally, and emotionally drained. However, witnessing David’s strength and determination has been truly inspiring. Despite the challenges, David has never given up, continuing to push himself to reach his goals and improve his quality of life.
Throughout his physiotherapy journey, David has also been able to gain valuable insight from fellow patients. Learning about life after a spinal cord injury has been an essential part of David’s rehabilitation process. Speaking with other patients has helped David to understand his injury and give greater insight into his potential future, learn new ways to cope with his disability, and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a fulfilling life.
David’s physiotherapy journey has been a challenging but inspiring one. David has faced each challenge head-on with determination and strength. Throughout it all, David has never given up, and his journey stands as a testament to the incredible power of the human spirit.
